There’s a particular kind of satisfaction that comes from handing someone exactly the information they need—and watching them use it. Maybe it’s a patient who finally understands why her doctor wants her on a statin. Maybe it’s a worried dad who Googled his son’s diagnosis at 2 AM and found something that actually made sense. Maybe it’s a caregiver who learned, from a well-designed discharge instruction sheet, how to manage a wound at home without a callback to the clinic.
That is the work this column is about.
