An International Perspective on Accredited Continuing Education for Health Professionals

Globally, health care professionals (HCPs) are expected to engage in lifelong learning to maintain or acquire knowledge and skills that are essential for delivering up-to-date evidence-based patient care. Across different regions, professions, and specialties, however, there is considerable variation in approaches to HCP education. Therefore, medical writers who contribute internationally to accredited continuing medical education for licensed physicians and continuing education for different members of the health care team must consider the context and circumstances in which audience members operate. This enables us to conduct pertinent needs assessments and ensure that educational content is relevant and engaging, informs best practice, and meets appropriate standards.
